Why should I hire you?
Photographing families, couples, newborns is a passion and hobby. I truly enjoy taking your photos, which means your family is sure to shine!. I've only recently decided to monetize it, after years of taking my families photos. I offer a unique perspective as a mom, and as a labor and delivery nurse (especially for those maternity and birth sessions!). I include hundreds of edited images, not your typical 15-20 images per half hour. I'd love to photograph your growing family- from engagement to welcoming a new baby in your life.
What is included with each session?
Typically one location, with the option for multiple locations upon request for an additional fee.
At least 100 fully edited images (full session) at least 30 images (mini session), with black and white images of my favorites as well.
Your own personal and private gallery, with ability to download every image, share the gallery with family and friends, as well as the ability to order prints directly from the gallery.
Where do you like to take photos?
My favorite is natural, outdoor light, preferably with some sun! But the best pictures are always taken where the client is most comfortable. Your home, a favorite park, wherever!
Where are you based and do you travel?
I am based in Montgomery County, MD, but willing to travel up to an hour at no extra cost to you. Travel past one hour will incur a travel fee, that we can discuss at the time of booking!
When will we get our photos and how do we access them?
Your will receive an online gallery link with all your photos within maximum 6 weeks (sometimes less depending on the season of your session). You can download all the photos from the gallery but also share them, choose your favorites, and also order prints!
How many pictures will we receive?
I don't aim for a specific shot number, but typically I get at least 250-300 images per session, and I also convert most images (my favorites) into black and white as well.
What do you do to makes us feel comfortable?
Before our session, I will send you a questionnaire to help us get to know each other better! It includes questions about what you are looking for from your session, and will help me know exactly what you are looking for!
Is this your full-time job?
No! Perhaps one day, but I am first and foremost a mama and wife. I am also a labor and delivery nurse!
What should I wear?
Whatever makes you feel comfortable! I recommend against full family matching, but color coordinating neutrals always photographs well!
What about posing?
I don't love "forced" poses. I love capturing the natural moments between you and your loved ones. I want you to feel comfortable, like I am not even there! That said, I am happy to help pose you.
When is the best time to schedule my session?
I recommend morning or evening light. For fall and winter photos, this is typically before 10am, and after 4pm.
For spring and summer, this is typically before 9am, and after 6pm. We can make anytime of day work though!
Does my personal gallery link expire?
Yes, but not for 5 years. Each gallery is set to expire about 5 years after each session. If I need to archive your session prior to that, I will let you know. I am happy to include a USB flash drive with your photos for an additional fee.
Are there any additional fees?
I will never charge you to download and access your photo gallery! It's included in my pricing.
For each additional half hour in a session, it's $100. For newborn, fresh 48, or birth photography, its an additional $200 for a half hour, past the 120 minute session.
I also charge a travel fee of $100, if it's outside of one hour of travel for me.
When do I pay and what payment options are there?
Payment is due the day of the session. I take cash, check, PayPal, or Venmo.
Do you have a contract?
Yes, I do. I will send it to you once we agree to work together.
I also ask that you respect that I put a lot of time and effort in editing, shooting, and setting up your gallery. I request that you please credit me (@kellyshires on instagram), when posting the photos.
Do you offer discounts?
I do! If you refer a client to me and they book a session, you will receive 25% off any photo session that you want. Just have the client mention your name!
Help! I don't love my photos and I would like a reshoot.
Reshoots and refunds are at my discretion, but if you are truly unhappy with your photos, we can work something out!
How are you handling COVID? What precautions are in place?
The beauty of photography is that social distancing can absolutely be maintained. I will wear a mask the entire session upon request, and make sure to use proper hand hygiene. As a nurse, I absolutely follow all CDC guidelines, and I am vaccinated and boosted (x2!). Shooting a session with me is as low-risk as can be right now!
